Thursday night marked the opening of the 6th Annual Chicopee Chill Series sponsored by Meltdown Snowboard Shop. What’s a Chill Series you ask? Well, the Chill Series is a weekly rail, big air and slopestyle competition hosted by Chicopee Ski & Summer Resort that runs from mid January to early March. This relaxed competition features some of the best local snowboarders and skiers. Thursday night’s rail comp featured two rail lines and a jam session on the C box. It was a cold windy night, but that didn’t stop any of the riders from slayin’ the rails in the newly designed Chicopee park. |
After viewing the first runs it was evident that all the riders have greatly improved from last season. I mean these kids killed it!
For such a windy icy night I was expecting to see more bails. Perhaps the impressive performances were partly due to the fact that the Roger’s Grand River Living television show featuring Chad Bisch was on location catching all the action. I know some of these riders were pretty stoked knowing they were going to be seen on TV.
When it came down to picking a winner for the evening it was quite close between a lot of the riders. Some of the best runs of the evening came from Daniel Glibota, Jon Harris, Jeremy Petrie, Landon Jones and the new wild cat to the Chill Series Matt Henry.
In the end the riders voted and it was Danny G’s C-box extravaganza that won him rider of the night.
